Fall Cleanup & Leaf Removal in Farmington, CT
David's Landscaping provides fall cleanup and leaf removal in Farmington, CT and the surrounding towns of Avon, West Hartford, Simsbury, Southington, Collinsville, Burlington and more. Connecticut's leaves come down fast, from mid-October to early December, and a thick layer left on your lawn all winter smothers the grass and shelters ticks, voles and mice. A fall cleanup clears your lawn, beds, walkways and driveway, cuts back your perennials and finishes with the last mow of the season. Choose a one-time cleanup, a multi-visit package, or our curbside leaf vac. Fall cleanups start at $250. We're a family-owned, licensed and insured company (CT HIC# 0670708) with more than 15 years of experience.

What's Included in a Fall Cleanup
A full fall cleanup covers the whole property, not just the lawn. Leaves that get trapped in beds and under shrubs cause just as many problems as leaves on the grass.
- Leaf removal from the lawn: leaves blown and raked off the entire lawn.
- Leaves cleared from beds and shrubs: pulled out from under and around shrubs and plantings, where they mat down and hold moisture all winter.
- Hard surfaces cleared: walkways, patios, steps and the driveway.
- Sticks and fallen branches picked up.
- Perennials cut back: spent stalks cut down so beds look clean through winter.
- Ornamental grasses left standing: they add winter interest and get cut back during your spring cleanup.
- Final mow of the season: a last cut to finish the lawn for winter.
- Leaf disposal your way: hauled away, blown into your wooded areas, or piled at the curb for town pickup.
Fall Cleanup Options
Every property is different. A small lot with a couple of maples needs something very different from a wooded acre in Avon or Burlington, so we offer three ways to handle your leaves.
1. Full Fall Cleanup
We do everything: lawn, beds, hard surfaces, perennials and the final mow, and the leaves go where you choose. This is the right fit for properties with light to moderate tree cover.
2. Multi-Visit Fall Cleanup Package
Most Connecticut trees don't drop their leaves at the same time. Maples come down first and oaks hang on into late November. A multi-visit package schedules cleanups at regular intervals through the season, and the combined price is usually lower than booking separate cleanups. It's the best choice for wooded lots.
3. Curbside Leaf Vac
Prefer to do some of the work yourself? Blow or rake your leaves into a pile at the curb, then call or text us when it's ready. We vacuum the pile into our truck and haul it away. No bags, no trips to the transfer station. The leaf vac is priced per visit based on the size of the pile. It's also a great backup if you missed your town's leaf pickup.
Where Your Leaves Go
With a full cleanup or package, you choose what happens to the leaves:
- Hauled away: we load them up and take them off your property.
- Blown into the woods: if your property backs up to woods, leaves can be blown to the wood line, where they break down naturally.
- Piled at the curb: for towns that offer curbside leaf collection. Check your town's pickup schedule.
Why Fall Leaf Removal Matters
- Leaves smother your lawn. A thick layer blocks sunlight. After about three to four weeks under leaves, grass starts to yellow and thin.
- Snow mold and disease. Wet, matted leaves under snow hold moisture against the grass, leading to snow mold and dead patches in spring.
- Ticks, voles and mice. Leaf piles give ticks a humid place to survive, and voles and mice tunnel under them all winter.
- Healthier beds. Leaves packed around shrubs and perennials invite rot and pests.
- A cheaper spring. Skipping the fall cleanup can push a spring cleanup past $1,000, because heavy, wet leaves take far longer to remove.
Can't I just mulch-mow the leaves?
Mulch-mowing works when leaf cover is light. The mower chops the leaves into small pieces that fall between the grass blades and break down. On most wooded Connecticut properties, though, there are far too many leaves. Chopping a thick layer just leaves a smothering mat on the lawn, so those leaves need to be removed.
When to Schedule a Fall Cleanup in Connecticut
Leaf season in central Connecticut runs from about mid-October through early December, with the heaviest drop in early November. Oaks are the last to let go, often holding leaves into late November.
- One cleanup: best scheduled after most of your leaves have fallen.
- Multiple visits: an early visit around the peak keeps the lawn from being smothered, and a final visit clears the last of the oak leaves.
- Book early. The fall season is short and our schedule fills quickly.
How Much Does a Fall Cleanup Cost?
Fall cleanups start at a $250 minimum and range up to $750 and more for large or heavily wooded properties. Every quote is tailored to your property.
What affects the price:
- Property size and the number of beds.
- Tree cover and how many leaves come down.
- Disposal choice: hauled away, blown into the woods, or piled at the curb.
- One cleanup or a package: multi-visit packages usually cost less overall than separate cleanups.

Fall Cleanup FAQs
What does a fall cleanup include?
Leaf removal from the lawn, beds, walkways, patio and driveway; leaves cleared from under and around shrubs; sticks picked up; perennials cut back; and the final mow of the season. Leaves are hauled away, blown into the woods or piled at the curb, whichever you choose.
How much does a fall cleanup cost?
Fall cleanups start at a $250 minimum and range up to $750 or more for large or heavily wooded properties. The price depends on property size, tree cover, leaf volume and disposal method. Quotes are free.
When should I schedule a fall cleanup in Connecticut?
Leaf season runs from about mid-October through early December. For a single cleanup, schedule it after most leaves are down. Wooded properties do best with two or more visits. Book early, because the season is short.
Should I get one fall cleanup or two?
One cleanup works for properties with light tree cover. If you have a lot of trees, especially oaks, which drop late, a multi-visit package keeps leaves from smothering the lawn and clears the last ones before winter.
Can I cancel a visit in my multi-visit package?
No. Package pricing is based on completing every visit, so all of the cleanups in a package must be completed, even if there are fewer leaves than expected.
How long can leaves sit on my lawn?
After about three to four weeks under a thick leaf layer, grass starts to yellow and thin from lack of light. Wet, matted leaves left over winter also lead to snow mold.
Do leaves attract ticks and rodents?
Yes. Leaf piles hold humidity that ticks need to survive, and voles and mice shelter and tunnel under leaves through the winter.
Can I just mulch-mow my leaves?
Only if leaf cover is light. On wooded properties, chopped leaves form a mat that still smothers the grass, so they need to be removed.
How does the curbside leaf vac work?
You blow or rake your leaves into a pile at the curb and call or text us when it's ready. We vacuum the pile into our truck and haul it away. No bagging. It's priced per visit based on the size of the pile.
I missed my town's leaf pickup. Can you help?
Yes. Our curbside leaf vac picks up your pile whenever it's ready, so you don't have to wait for the town or bag anything.
Do you haul the leaves away?
Yes, if you'd like. You can also have them blown into the wooded areas of your property or piled at the curb for town collection.
Do you cut back perennials and ornamental grasses in the fall?
We cut back perennials in the fall. Ornamental grasses are left standing for winter interest and cut back during your spring cleanup.
Do you clean gutters?
No. Gutter cleaning isn't part of our fall cleanup service.
Do I need to be home for my fall cleanup?
No. Just move furniture, toys, hoses and other items beforehand. Our crew doesn't move customer belongings. You'll be billed after the job.
