What's Included With Every Lawn Mowing Visit
A good mow is more than cutting grass. Here's what our lawn mowing service in Farmington includes on every visit, at no extra charge:
- Precision mowing at 3–3.5 inches. We set our deck height for your grass and the season, and we never remove more than one-third of the blade at a time.
- String trimming. Around fences, trees, beds, mailboxes and other spots a mower can't reach.
- Edging. Crisp, clean lines along your sidewalks and driveway on every visit, not just a few times a year.
- Blowing off hard surfaces. We clear clippings from your driveway, walkways, patio and steps before we leave.
- Clippings mulched back into the lawn. Fine clippings go straight back into the soil as a free, natural fertilizer.
- A regular rotation. Weekly or bi-weekly service on a consistent route, adjusted for the weather (more on that below).
Why We Recommend Mulching Instead of Bagging Clippings
Bagging is available for an additional fee, but we usually talk our customers out of it, and here's why. Grass clippings are mostly water and break down within days, putting nitrogen and other nutrients back into your soil. Bag them and you're throwing away free fertilizer and paying extra to do it. Mulched clippings also don't cause thatch. Thatch builds up from roots and stems, not from clippings. On a regular mowing schedule, clippings are short and disappear into the turf. If you still prefer bagging, just ask and we'll include it in your quote.
↑ Back to topHow Much Does Lawn Mowing Cost in Farmington, CT?
Most weekly lawn mowing in Farmington and the surrounding towns costs $60 to $130 per cut, depending mainly on the size of your lawn. Here's our typical weekly pricing:
| Lawn size | Typical price per cut (weekly service) |
|---|---|
| Under 1/4 acre | $60 – $75 |
| 1/4 to 1/2 acre | $70 – $95 |
| 1/2 to 1 acre | $95 – $130 |
| Over 1 acre | Custom quote |
What Affects the Price of Lawn Mowing?
- Lawn size: the biggest factor. More square footage means more time on the mower.
- Weekly vs. bi-weekly: two weeks of growth takes longer to cut and clean up, so bi-weekly service is priced differently from weekly.
- Obstacles and trimming: lots of beds, trees, fencing or play sets mean more string trimming.
- Slopes and terrain: steep hills and banks, common in Burlington, Avon and parts of Farmington, take more time and care to mow safely.
- Edging length: long driveways and walkways add edging time.
- Bagging: collecting and hauling clippings adds an extra fee.
Over a full May-through-October season, that's roughly 26 cuts on a weekly schedule or about 13 on a bi-weekly schedule. Because you're billed per cut, you only pay for the mows you actually get.

↑ Back to topWeekly vs. Bi-Weekly Lawn Mowing: Which Is Right for You?
We offer both weekly lawn mowing and bi-weekly lawn mowing. The biggest difference shows up in spring, when Connecticut lawns can grow an inch or more a week:
| Weekly mowing | Bi-weekly mowing | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Homeowners who want a sharp, manicured lawn all season | Slower-growing or shady lawns, and tighter budgets |
| Lawn health | Best. Follows the one-third rule even during spring growth | Fine in mid-summer, but grass can outgrow the one-third rule in May and June |
| Appearance | Always freshly cut, with fine clippings that disappear | Looks great right after a cut, a bit longer between visits |
| Pricing | Weekly per-cut rate, about 26 cuts (May–Oct) | Bi-weekly per-cut rate, about 13 cuts (May–Oct) |
Our recommendation: weekly mowing keeps most Connecticut lawns healthiest, especially during the spring flush. Pick the schedule that fits your lawn and stick with it. Because weekly and bi-weekly service are priced differently, skipping weeks isn't allowed (see the FAQ below).
↑ Back to topWhy We Mow at 3 to 3.5 Inches
Most lawns in Farmington and central Connecticut are cool-season grasses: Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, tall fescue and fine fescues. These grasses are healthiest when mowed tall. Cutting too short, or “scalping,” is one of the most common reasons Connecticut lawns thin out, brown up in summer and fill with weeds and crabgrass.
- Deeper roots: taller blades support deeper roots that find water during dry spells.
- Fewer weeds: a taller canopy shades the soil, so weed and crabgrass seeds have a harder time sprouting.
- Less summer stress: we stay at the top of our range in hot, dry weather to protect your lawn.
- The one-third rule: we never cut more than one-third of the grass blade in a single mow.

↑ Back to topHow the Weather Affects Your Mowing Day
“Weekly” doesn't always mean exactly every seven days. Connecticut weather is unpredictable, and mowing during a rainstorm or right after one causes deep wheel ruts, torn turf and clumped clippings. Damage like that can take weeks to recover from. We work hard to stay on schedule, but we always make the best decision for your lawn, and sometimes that means waiting until the ground firms up.
Before Mow Day: Please Clear Your Lawn
To keep every visit quick and safe, please pick up all items and dog waste before your mowing day. Picking up the yard isn't part of the mowing service. For liability reasons, our crew does not touch or move any of your belongings, including toys, trampolines, play sets, pots, planters and decor. If something is left on the lawn, we'll mow around it, and that area won't get cut.
We're the First Eyes on Your Lawn
Because we're on your property every week or two, we're usually the first to notice when something is wrong. Grubs, insect damage, drought stress and lawn disease can kill large patches of grass fast if they aren't caught early. Our crew keeps an eye out on every visit and we'll let you know if we see a problem, so you can deal with it before it spreads.
We don't apply lawn fertilizers or pest treatments ourselves. When we spot a problem that needs one, we'll tell you what we're seeing so you can get it handled by a licensed lawn treatment company.
↑ Back to topOur Lawn Mowing Season in Connecticut
Our lawn mowing season runs from May through October, which covers the main growing season for Connecticut lawns. Two services bookend the season:
- Before the first mow: a spring cleanup clears winter debris, sticks and matted leaves so your lawn greens up evenly.
- After the last mow: leaves are handled through our fall cleanup service. Clearing heavy leaf cover before winter helps prevent snow mold and dead patches in spring.

Lawn Mowing FAQs
How often should I mow my lawn in Connecticut?
Weekly during May and June, when cool-season grass grows fastest. Once growth slows in mid-summer heat, some lawns do fine on a bi-weekly schedule. The rule of thumb is to never remove more than one-third of the grass blade in a single mow.
Does weekly mowing mean you come exactly every 7 days?
Not always. Rain is unpredictable, and mowing during a storm or right after one causes deep ruts and turf damage. We do our best to stay on schedule, but we always make the best decision for your lawn. Sometimes that means waiting until the ground is firm enough to mow without damage.
Do you mow in the rain or when the lawn is wet?
No. Mowing soaked turf tears the grass, leaves wheel ruts and clumps clippings across the lawn. We'll mow as soon as conditions allow.
What height should grass be cut in Connecticut?
3 to 3.5 inches for most Connecticut lawns (Kentucky bluegrass, ryegrass and fescue). Mowing tall builds deeper roots, shades out weeds and helps your lawn handle summer heat.
How much does lawn mowing cost in Farmington, CT?
Weekly service for most lawns costs $60 to $130 per cut depending on size: about $60–$75 under 1/4 acre, $70–$95 for 1/4 to 1/2 acre, and $95–$130 for 1/2 to 1 acre. Lawns over an acre get a custom quote. Bi-weekly service is priced separately. Trimming, edging and blowing are included.
Do I have to sign a contract for lawn mowing?
No long-term contract is required. You're billed per cut after each mow. While you're on our schedule, we do ask that you stick with the weekly or bi-weekly rotation you chose. Skipping weeks isn't allowed.
Can I skip a week?
No. Weekly and bi-weekly service are priced differently, so skipping weeks on a weekly plan isn't allowed. A last-minute skip also leaves an open spot on our route that could have gone to another customer. If you think a different schedule fits your lawn better, talk to David.
What do I need to do before my mowing day?
Pick up all items and dog waste from the lawn. That includes toys, balls, trampolines, play sets, pots, planters, hoses and decor. Picking up the yard isn't part of the mowing service.
Will your crew move my trampoline, toys or planters?
No. For liability reasons, our crew does not touch or move any customer belongings. If an item is left on the lawn, we'll mow around it and that area won't get cut. If you want that spot mowed, please move the item before your service day.
Will you let me know if you see a problem with my lawn?
Yes. We're usually the first eyes on grub damage, insect problems, drought stress and lawn disease. If we spot something that could kill your grass, we'll let you know so you can get it treated quickly.
Do you fertilize lawns or treat lawn weeds and grubs?
No. We don't apply lawn fertilizers, weed treatments or pest treatments to grass. Our focus is mowing and landscape maintenance, and our weed control service covers planting beds only. If we spot a problem, we'll tell you so you can contact a licensed lawn treatment company.
Do you bag grass clippings?
Bagging is available for an additional fee, but we recommend leaving the clippings on the lawn. Mulched clippings return free nutrients to your soil, and they don't cause thatch.
Is edging included with lawn mowing?
Yes. Edging along sidewalks and driveways, string trimming and blowing off all hard surfaces are included on every visit at no extra charge.
How do I pay for lawn mowing?
We bill you after each mow. Payment is never collected in the field, so you don't need to be home or leave a check out for the crew.
Who do I contact with questions or concerns?
Please contact David, the owner, directly at 203-908-1987 or careformygrass@gmail.com. Our crews are on a tight route, so we ask that you not stop them to chat or pass along requests. Going straight to David makes sure your question gets answered and your lawn stays on schedule.
When does your lawn mowing season start and end?
Our mowing season runs from May through October. Fall leaves are handled through our separate fall cleanup service, and spring cleanups get your lawn ready for the first mow.
What towns do you provide lawn mowing service in?
We mow lawns in Farmington, Unionville, Avon, West Hartford, Simsbury, Southington, Collinsville, Canton, Burlington, Bristol, Plainville, Newington, New Britain, Bloomfield, Hartford, Windsor Locks and Suffield, CT.
Do you offer other lawn maintenance services?
Yes. Along with mowing, we offer core aeration, dethatching, overseeding, sod installation, spring and fall cleanups, mulching and shrub trimming and pruning. See all of our property maintenance services.
